A place of history and mystery

The Bathgate Hills have a fascinating history that goes back thousands of years. They have witnessed and supported many landscape, cultural and natural changes as life has evolved around them.

Their stories, past and present, deserve to be shared and celebrated. In the last two years particularly, they have provided an invaluable way to get away from it all – a local free space for people to breathe during tough times.

They are as important now as they ever were.

Join us as we begin to share their stories, and please share your stories too.

The Bathgate Hills offer a fascinating history and incredible views, but please take care when exploring. There are steep drops and busy roads that you may have to navigate. Please also respect the livestock in farm fields, especially during lambing season. Always wear high-vis clothing if walking on darker days or evenings and stay safe.

This website offers ideas of where and how to explore, but we cannot be held responsible for your own personal actions. Please act responsibly and stay safe.

Please respect our surroundings as you explore.

The Scottish Outdoor Access Code gives some really useful advice.
